Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between palliative care and hospice?

Palliative care provides specialized support, symptom management, and guidance for anyone living with a serious illness, and it can be provided alongside your curative treatments at any stage of your journey. Hospice is a specific type of palliative care focused entirely on comfort during the final months of life. Our firm helps you navigate the entire continuum, ensuring you have clarity long before hospice is ever needed.

Will you replace my oncologist or primary care doctor?

No. We act as your dedicated clinical advocate and consultant, not your primary treating physician. We specialize in the time-intensive "goals of care" conversations that busy specialists often cannot accommodate. We work collaboratively with your current medical team—often speaking physician-to-physician—to ensure your treatments align perfectly with your personal values.

Does insurance or Medicare cover your consulting fees?

Last Chapter Consulting is a private-pay, concierge service. Because we provide high-touch, extended consultations and continuous advocacy that fall outside the traditional bounds of insurance-reimbursed 15-minute clinic visits, we do not bill insurance or Medicare. This allows us to dedicate the necessary time and undivided attention to your family's unique story.

When is the right time to schedule a consultation?

The best time is whenever you feel overwhelmed, confused, or unsure about the next steps in a serious illness. Whether you are navigating a new diagnosis, facing a major change in treatment, or beginning to explore end-of-life planning, having an expert medical guide in your corner can provide immediate clarity and peace of mind.

Where do consultations take place?

For families located within the Metro Atlanta area, we offer comprehensive in-home consultations. For families across the rest of Georgia, we provide our full suite of consulting and advocacy services virtually via a secure telehealth platform.

What happens during the initial phone call?

Your first conversation is a complimentary 15-minute discovery call. It is simply an opportunity to share the most pressing challenge or confusion your family is facing right now, allowing us to determine if our concierge advocacy is the right fit to help you write your next chapter.

Do you accept insurance or Medicare?

Last Chapter Consulting operates on a transparent, cash-based (out-of-network) model. We do not contract directly with commercial insurance providers or Medicare.

Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for consulting services?

Yes! Because our consultations are provided by a licensed physician and focus on medical care management, symptom navigation, and care coordination, they are generally considered qualified medical expenses under IRS guidelines.

You can pay for your sessions in two ways:

  1. Direct Payment: You can use your HSA or FSA debit card directly at checkout through our secure portal.
  2. Reimbursement: You can pay out-of-pocket and request a detailed Superbill (Medical Invoice) from us. This invoice includes all necessary clinical data, tax IDs, and medical coding (CPT and ICD-10 codes) required by your HSA/FSA administrator to process your reimbursement.

Note: While our services broadly qualify, we always recommend verifying your specific plan's out-of-network reimbursement policies with your account administrator.

I am on Medicare. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely. We frequently consult with individuals and families who have Medicare. However, because we are a private, out-of-network practice, federal regulations require us to establish a Private Contract prior to our first session.

This simple, legally binding agreement confirms that you agree to pay our flat fee out-of-pocket, and that neither you nor Last Chapter Consulting will submit a claim to Medicare for reimbursement. This ensures full regulatory compliance while allowing us to give you the dedicated support you deserve.
